Tina the Musical has been confirmed

Tina Turner fans have been hoping for this for years, if not decades and for years it has been rumoured but on 16 December 2016 Stage Entertainment confirmed they are developing a new musical based on Tina Turner’s life. It was also announced that Tina Turner herself has joined the creative team, attending a workshop presentation of the new show in London.

The show is being developed with Dutch theatre producer Joop van den Ende of Stage Entertainment, the producer who brought us Sister Act. The team also includes Katori Hall, with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, director Phyllida Lloyd, set and costume designer Mark Thompson, choreography Anthony van Laast and musical supervisor Nicholas Skilbeck. During the recent London workshop the role of Tina was played by Tony Award nominated American actress Adrienne Warren.
Although details and specifics are few and far between, Tina the Musical is said to be on track for a 2018 premiere in a West End theatre. This new production is not the first to be inspired by Tina Turner’s amazing career and often tumultuous personal life. In 2012 Soul Sister, the musical based on Tina’s rocky relationship with Ike Turner hit the stage.

Sarah's love of theater was sparked by an enthusiastic drama teacher who wouldn't take no for an answer. These days she's much more comfortable in the audience than on the stage. She's an English teacher and enjoys reading and writing when she's not teaching or at the theater.
