What is the Mary Poppins musical about?

While many differences exist between the Mary Poppins film and West End musical, the basis for the plot remains the same. Set in Edwardian London, the story follows the Banks family who are in desperate search of a new nanny. After the children, Jane and Michael, make a list of traits that their dream nanny should have, the fantastical Mary Poppins appears from thin air to save the day and put the Banks family back in order. The self-proclaimed perfect Miss Poppins lights up the children's world with endless fun, fantasy and, of course, catchy songs.

The stage adaption combines elements of both the original books and 1964 film and notably brings the character of Neleus from the books to life for the first time. New characters such as the Balloon Woman and Nellie Rubina have been specially created for the stage, and there is more emphasis placed on Jane and Michael misbehaving. As far as the music is concerned, the song 'Let's Go Fly a Kite' is no longer sung at the end of the story, but rather near the beginning of Act 2, while everyone's favourite tune, 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,' is sung in a sweet shop instead of at a horse race like in the film.

The number of differences could certainly fill a short book and audiences will simply have to experience the magic of Marry Poppins on stage for themselves!

Tickets to Mary Poppins The Musical expected to sell out fast!

Thousands upon thousands of theatre fans are anxious for the West End revival of Mary Poppins. Tickets to the first few weeks of performances are likely to sell out faster than you can say 'supercallifragilisticexpialidocious' backwards! And that's a piecrust promise!

Avoid disappointment and book your Mary Poppins tickets as soon as they go on sale on Monday, 28 January 2019
