GOSSIP: JOANNA LUMLEY IN NEXT TREVOR NUNN PRODUCTION?

It has been rumoured that the final production from Trevor Nunn as part of his tenure as Artistic Director at the Theatre Royal Haymarket will be The Lion In Winter and tipped to take the lead role as Eleanor of Aquitaine is Joanna Lumley.

The fictional historical drama, famously made as a film in 1968 winning Katherine Hepburn yet another Oscar as best actress, was written for the Broadway stage in 1966 and later had a revival on Broadway again in 1999.  It has never been shown in London's West End however.

Currently Nunn's production of Tom Stoppard's play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is showing at the Haymarket, with his production of The Tempest starring Ralph Fiennes to follow.  If Trevor Nunn does take on the production it would end his stay with another sure to be starred filled winner.

The play tells the story of the 12th-century queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine who returns to court after being imprisoned by her husband King Henry II for ten years and the plots for the throne.
