    David Fynn returns to the West End’s School of Rock before it closes

    David Fynn originated in the lead role of Dewey Finn in the London School of Rock production back in 2016 when it had its UK premiere. He will be returning to the role at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 20 January 2020. The show announced last week that it will close on 1 March 2020, which will see Fynn in the lead for the remainder of its West End run.

    David Fynn to play Dewey Finn once more!

    David Fynn popularly played the role of Dewey Finn when the show premiered in the UK at the Gillian Lynne Theatre where it remains today. Now, following the news that the show will be closing in the West End, comes the announcement that Fynn will be returning to the lead role for the final months. The star will play the role of Dewey from 20 January until the show closes on 1 March. Fynn’s other theatre credits include Romeo & Juliet (National Theatre) and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Donmar Warehouse). He also has various television credits including popular series Game of Thrones, Black Mirror, The Inbetweeners and Doctor Who.

    School of Rock – The musical adaptation

    The musical adaptation based on the 2003 film of the same name starring Jack Black opened on Broadway in 2015. The musical created by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Julian Fellowes and Glenn Slater opened in the West End in 2016 and will go on a UK tour following its closure. The musical is directed by Laurence Connor, has choreography from JoAnn M Hunter, music supervision by John Rigby, with Matt Smith is the musical director. It has set and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by Mick Potter.

    What is School of Rock about?

    School of Rock follows the story of a washed-up musician, Dewey Finn, who in a desperate attempt to make rent, uses the identity of his friend in order to get a job as a teacher. Upon discovering that his class are musically talented, he forms a band with the ultimate field trip; to enter the Battle of the Bands. Permission slips, strict teachers and parents threaten to hold them back which leads Dewey to teach a vital lesson; to stick it to the man!

    The West End School of Rock cast

    David Fynn will join the London School of Rock cast which includes Laura Tebbutt as Rosalie Mullins, Mark Anderson as Ned Schneebly and Rebecca LaChance as Patty Di Marco.
