Casting update for the West End’s Waitress

This Saturday, 7 September, will see the final performances for some beloved cast members, including Peter Hannah who originated in the role of Earl back in February. In case you’ve missed the news, here’s a recap on who will be leaving the West End Waitress cast and who will be starting their first shift at the diner next week.

Casting update for the West End’s Waitress
Joe Sugg joins cast of Waitress next week along with Tamlyn Henderson and Cindy Belliot

Who is leaving Waitress this week?

This Saturday will see Blake Harrison wave goodbye to the pie show, as he will play Ogie one last time, even though it seems like his run just began. Also leaving Waitress this week is Peter Hannah, who is one of the original members of the West End cast. Peter has played the role of Earl since the show opened at the Adelphi Theatre back in February this year. Despite the character being utterly despicable, Peter is beloved by Waitress fans, and will sadly be missed. It’s safe to say we’re all eagerly awaiting his next theatre venture. The cast changes don’t stop there as the fantastic Nicole Raquel Dennis also leaves the company. Nicole is a fantastic member of the ensemble and also covers Nurse Norma; which she excels at!

Who is joining Waitress next week?

You’ve probably heard the news that Joe Sugg, of YouTube and Strictly Come Dancing fame, will be joining the West End Waitress cast but here is your reminder! Joe will be taking over the role of Ogie from Blake Harrison, beginning on Monday 9 September. This will be Joe Sugg’s West End debut! Tamlyn Henderson will take over the role of Earl; currently played by Peter Hannah. Tamlyn’s stage credits include Mamma Mia and Les Miserables on tour. Replacing Nicole in the company is Cindy Belliot (Aladdin) who will also begin on the same day; on Monday!

    What is Waitress about?

For those who are not yet familiar with this hit musical comedy, beloved both on Broadway and now, here in the West End, Waitress is the slice of happiness we all want an extra helping off. Fondly referred to as ‘The Pie Show’, this baked to perfection production is often described as a ‘Soft Place to Land’; taken from one of the songs by the genius Sara Bareilles. The show follows waitress Jenna Hunterson who doesn’t mind the mundanity of the same old routine, as long as she can get lost in baking, and “serve her worries away”. Her want to escape: her no-good, abusive husband Earl and the loveless marriage she finds herself trapped in. After discovering she is pregnant, Jenna decides to save up in order to enter a baking contest in the hopes that the prize money, should she win, will provide her with the means to a new life. The story is heart-breaking whilst simultaneously hilarious, and each number is as incredible as each other.
