Recent #TicketTuesday winner Lynn Wakeford went with her 20-year-old daughter who is a dance enthusiast to see the West End's first major mainstream burlesque-inspired revue, The Hurly Burly Show.
The naughty but nice show has been tickling people's fancies at the Duchess Theatre, attracting celebrity fans such as pint-sized pop princess Kylie Minogue and actor Rupert Everett. Grazia magazine described it as "devilishly debauched" while the Daily Telegraph called it "glamourous, divinely decadent entertainment". Here is Lynn's take on the production:
The Hurly Burly Show is not for the faint hearted, being a fairly cheeky entertainment. I am referring not just to the pert derrieres, but the saucy smiles on the Hurly Burly Girlies faces. It is this tongue in cheek (there's that word again!) attitude that makes the show fun and saves it from just being smutty. Double entendre abound, giving the show a pantomime feel in parts, but all done 'in the best possible taste!'
However the girlies are all great dancers, and one particular number, Daydream, was on a par with any contemporary ballet pieces I have seen. The girls gave the impression that they all enjoyed their jobs and the one that I spoke to after the show, was just as friendly and bubbly as she had appeared to be on stage.
In all, I would recommend a night of Burlesque, Hurly Burly entertainment at The Duchess Theatre, to anyone.
The Hurly Burly Show is running for a strictly limited 12 week season until the 22nd September. Book your tickets here.
