Ticket Tuesday winner Jessica Scott won tickets to see spooky West End juggernaut War Horse through our weekly Twitter competition. Here is her review of the show that she saw on Tuesday 22nd July.
I entered a Ticket Tuesday competition on Twitter in June for the chance to win two tickets to see The Woman in Black. A month later I went to see the show with my mum in London.
Wow, what can I say? Firstly a massive thank you to London Theatre Direct for giving me the opportunity to see a fantastic show, and also for making the winning process so simple.
As we entered the theatre on the sunny afternoon, I picked up the tickets from the box office and was thrilled to see that we were placed in the stalls, right in the middle of the auditorium. Now for someone who is an obsessive theatre lover, these seats just made me even more ecstatic to watch it.
Although I had been planning to see this show for quite some time, I had not got round to booking it and quite frankly didn’t have the money to splash out on a show. However, winning these tickets enabled me to find out what the speculation about the supposedly horrifying and deadly show was all about. Well, now I can comment on the show from my own perspective. It certainly was scary and the hype made me more fearful. As I sat waiting in my seat I was scared and slightly nervous. Without giving too much away, the second act was a lot scarier and jumpy and this was probably because the story develops and greater fear is expected.
The actors in this show were absolutely breathtaking. Stuart Fox and Gwynfor Jones are a fantastic and extremely convincing ‘Arthur Kipps’ and ‘Actor’. As an avid theatre goer, great actors can be spotted straight away, and within the first ten seconds I knew we were in for a real treat. They held the show together so well. Besides the incredible acting, the use of sound and lighting were the key strengths of the show and together this is what created the nerves and excitement of the unknown within me. Great effort to all the crew and the tiny cast.
For anyone who is tempted to book up and see it, just do it! You will certainly not regret it, and also, enter the theatre with an open mind and enable yourself to explore your imagination. This is my advice as I believe you will get the most out of the show if you are creative and can absorb yourself within the show. Thanks again London Theatre Direct for this opportunity.
