TICKET OFFER: See Sir Antony Sher in Travelling Light at the National Theatre

We have great seats to see  Travelling Light a new play by Nicholas Wright at the National Theatre .  Discounted tickets are now £32.50 valid until 2nd June.

Antony Sher is a double Olivier award winning actor, writer, theatre director and painter, who made his breakthrough in 1984, when he played the title role in Shakespeare's Richard III. This won him his first Laurence Olivier Award. He won again in 1997 for his role in Stanley.

Wright’s play is a poignant, warm and funny look at the invention of cinema.

In Travelling Light he plays Jacob Bindel, a character who is almost the opposite of Gellburg the role he recently played to acclaim in the West End in Arthur Miller's Broken Glass.  “He is this sort of life force of a man,” says Sher. “He’s had a strange upbringing, part of the time as a feral child. He’s illiterate and yet has this natural instinct for storytelling and for business.”

    Antony Sher
has a custom at the end of a play to paint a picture of himself in the role he has just finished.  He celebrated his 60th birthday in 2009 with a new edition of his 2002 autobiography, Beside Myself, and an enormous autobiographical oil painting called “The Audience” which shows 130 portraits of people who have been significant to him: heroes and villains (Mandela, Hitler), great actors (Olivier, Brando), family and friends, characters he has played (Primo Levi, Stanley Spencer).

See him in Travelling Light, the Evening Guardian described him as explosively energetic so don't miss out!
