The Buzz From The Bardette: The Audience And Broadway Smash Hit Motown The Musical

Summer may feel like its months away, but let’s banish those rainy day blues and talk sizzling tickets and some exciting news hot off the press.

As the country celebrates a new addition to the Royal family, we also welcome another royal arrival to the West End stage – The Audience.

Kristin Scott Thomas has taken over the reins from Helen Mirren to star in Peter Morgan’s portrayal of the Queen’s private meetings with her Prime Minister’s (very topical) and is receiving phenomenal 4 and 5 stars across the board. Directed by Stephen Daldry, this smash hit production is one of the hottest tickets in the West End at the moment and I can’t wait to go and see it. If you’ve seen it, would love to know what you thought.

Another hot ticket is American Buffalo that boasts an impressive cast. I saw this in opening week and really enjoyed Daniel Evans’ production of this Mamet classic. Damian Lewis, John Goodman and Tom Sturridge are on stage at the Wyndham’s until the end of June and to see these three reputable actors on stage together really is something to behold. The premise of the play revolves around a rare Buffalo coin, that Don (Goodman) sells for less than its value and he wants it back. He instructs the help of Bob (Sturridge), a petty crook who Don has taken under his wing, to help him steal it back. Once bolshie Teach (Lewis) persuades Don he’d be better at the task, the drama unfolds in a tale of honour and loyalty amongst thieves. With brilliant humour, this really is a production not to be missed even if it’s for Lewis’ seventies maroon suit and tasche.

With talk of summer comes Hay Fever, (not the sneezing kind) Noel Cowards hilarious comedy starring Felicity Kendal. I had a good giggle when I saw this last weekend for London Theatre Direct, I absolutely love Kendal and she gave a glittering performance as Judith Bliss. Be sure to check out my Hay Fever Review.

You’ve heard it through the grapevine and now for some really exciting news. Hot off the press, is the West End transfer of Motown: The Musical next February. This record breaking smash hit, is currently wow-ing audiences on Broadway, featuring all the classic hits from an unforgettable era in music history. With over 40 iconic songs from the fabulous Diana RossMichael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The TemptationsMotown: The Musical at London's Shaftesbury Theatre will be a theatrical experience you won’t forget- you’ll be dancing in the street! Stay tuned for ticket information.

    Have a theatre filled week!
