Summer Holiday 2017 West End Family Theatre

Another school holiday and if you have been too busy planning your own theatre to watch then what to do with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc etc may have fallen by the wayside. Have no fear I am here to help with my recommendations for summer holiday theatre.

The Little Beasts, The Other Palace
This dark and imaginatively comic musical follows a selfish little girl who runs away from home and discovers a magical menagerie filled with animals that used to be children before their naughtiness brought them to untimely ends. When the menagerie’s menacing proprietor tasks her with choosing one animal to set free, she must decide which one, if any, has learned its lesson. But things are not what they seem, and is any child truly naughty?
A work in progress this will give not only the opportunity to see a new musical develop but to offer any feedback on what you have seen.
A musical for aged 7+ with magical and innovative puppetry

What the Ladybird Heard, The Lyric Theatre
This fun show, adapted from the  book sees two crafty robbers, one tiny ladybird, and a whole farmyard of fun! Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len have a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow. But they reckon without the tiniest, quietest creature of all: The Ladybird has a plan of her own!

    Gangsta Granny, Garrick Theatre
This is another stage adaptation of David Walliams’ best-selling book. It's Friday night and Ben knows that means only one thing - staying with Granny! There will be cabbage soup, cabbage pie and cabbage cake to eat and Ben knows one thing for sure - it's going to be soooooo boring! But what Ben doesn't know is that Granny has a secret - and Friday nights are about to get more exciting than he could possibly imagine, as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime with his very own Gangsta Granny!

The Hunting of the Snark, Vaudeville Theatre
Enter the imaginative world of Alice in Wonderland creator, Lewis Carroll, in this brand new, highly original, ultra-modern adaptation inspired by his much loved classic poem. This show features five high-energy actors, life-like puppets, fantastical characters, and lashings of daft humour.
A riotous ragtag gang of bold adventurers including the Boy, the Banker, the Butcher, the Baker, the Bellman and the knitting Beaver set off on a quest to catch the mythical Snark... on the journey they encounter the Jub Jub bird, the sly Bandersnatch and the dastardly Boojum... Can a Snark be caught with soap? Will the Beaver escape the hungry Butcher's clutches? Will the Baker remember his name? Does anyone know what a Snark actually looks like?

Remember, the holidays are only 6 weeks, do whatever you have to do to get through them. All of these theatres have bars. . .

    Shanine Salmon

Shanine Salmon was a latecomer to theatre after being seduced by the National Theatre's £5 entry pass tickets and a slight obsession with Alex Jennings. She is sadly no longer eligible for 16-25 theatre tickets but she continues to abuse under 30 offers. There was a market for bringing awareness that London theatre was affordable in an era of £100+ West End tickets – Shanine’s blog, View from the Cheap Seat, launched in April 2016, focuses on productions and theatres that have tickets available for £20 and under. She is also quite opinionated and has views on diversity, pricing, theatre seats and nudity on stage. Her interests include Rocky Horror, gaming, theatre (of course) and she also has her own Etsy shop. Shanine tweets at @Braintree_.
