    RUPERT EVERETT TO LEAVE PYGMALION

A press statement released by the producers today of the Pygmalion production at the Garrick Theatre until 3rd September said that Rupert Everett will leave the production to start filming BBC and HBO drama Parade's End, adapted by Tom Stoppard, from Ford Madox Ford's books.

Everett is the second cast member departing from the play after Simon Ward in the role of Eliza Doolittle's father had to withdraw during the previews due to a ill health.  Replacing Rupert Everett in the role of Professor Henry Higgins will be Alistair McGowan, the actor well known as starring on TV's The Big Impression Show.  However, he does have more to offer than just being a master of mimicry.

He has previously been seen in the West End in Art, Cabaret and Little Shop of Horrors for which he received an Olivier Award nomination and his other stage credits also include work at Nottingham Playhouse, Chichester, the RSC, Carl Rosa, Menier Chocolate Factory and Nottingham Lakeside.

McGowan joins Kara Tointon, Diana Rigg, Michael Feast and Peter Eyre in the cast of the Chichester Festival Theatre production, which is directed by Philip Prowse.

Alistair McGowan will take over the role from Rupert Everett from 15th August for the last 3 weeks of the play's run at the Garrick Theatre.
