REVIEW: The Comedy about a Bank Robbery in 250 words

The Comedy about a Bank Robbery is the creation of Mischief Theatre who created Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Play that Goes Wrong. The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, although somewhat unsubtle and a touch too predictable, is altogether enjoyable, easy entertainment.

There are some real laugh-out-loud moments in The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, although the majority of the play, rather than being hysterically funny, is lightly entertaining. The show starts slowly and it takes a while to pick up. Some scenes live up to the standards set by Mischief Theatre's other productions, but most of the comedy is less original and, at times, overdone. I certainly didn't feel takenby surprise during the show. Most of the time, the staging is fairly nondescript, although on occassion it is used to create some ingenious humour. You cannot help but feel that the company could do more in this regard - as, for example, they have done with Peter Pan Goes Wrong. However, the muic of the show is done really well and the cast are good, with Dave Hearn and Charlie Russell as strong leads.

Although you can buy tickets to see this play from £12, you would more likely be looking at around £40 for good seats. For this price, I would usually recommend seeeing one of Mischief Theatre's other comedy shows; however, if The Comedy About a Bank Robbery appeals to you, you can catch it at the Criterion Theatre until the end of April 2017.
