    Opening on the West End in September 2017

    September is here which means summer holidays are over, school has begun and a new season of shows is coming to the West End. Here is a look at some of the amazing shows that are opening this month in London.

    • Britney Spears The Cabaret, The Other Palace
      If, like me, you don’t have the time/money to see Queen Britney in Vegas then this tribute from Aussie Christine Whelan Browne is a great alternative. Arriving with great reviews from its Australian run don’t miss this funny and satirical look at fame.

    • Waiting for Godot, Arts Theatre
      Returning to the home of its original 1955 run Samuel Beckett’s classic play is one not to be missed whether you are new to the world of theatre or long-term fan. Two men wait on a country road for Godot, if he arrives they are saved, if not they have to come back tomorrow.

    • INK, Duke of York’s Theatre
      Part of North London Almeida Theatre’s, where it sold out this summer, West End season James Graham’s Ink looks at The Sun newspaper’s emergence from Mirror-owned Broadsheet to Rupert Murdoch’s trashy tabloid under the editor Larry Lamb. Matilda’s Bertie Carvel and Coupling’s Richard Coyle give one of the performances of the year. A fun and informative look at Fleet Street Life

    • Graeme of Thrones, Charing Cross Theatre
      If you're mourning a life avoiding spoilers then this unauthorised parody might make that wait for Season 8 in 2019 a little easier to bare. Huge GoT fan Graeme’s dream is to recreate his favourite show, despite lack of budget, cast or talent. Banned in Malaysia, don’t miss this show which has been wowing audiences worldwide (before HBO’s lawyers find out)

    • Le Grand Mort, Trafalgar Studios
      Following his run in the London Palladium’s panto Julian Clary returns to the West End stage in Stephen Clark’s play. Sadly Clarke passed away before he could see Clary in the play he wrote for him. This dark comedy features two men and one flat in Notting Hill as they play a series of mind games is a great way to spend an autumnal night.

    • Toxic Avenger, Arts Theatre 
      Following a successful run at Southwark Playhouse in South London The Toxic Avenger has made its way to the centre of London. Based on Lloyd Kaufman's 1984 film of the same name, The Toxic Avenger is a cult rock musical from The team that bought you the revival of The Stripper, by Rocky Horror’s Richard O’Brien and Richard Hartley. If you love camp classics then this is the show for you.

    • Labour of Love, Noel Coward Theatre
      September is the month of James Graham as his second play opens in the West End. Starring Martin Freeman and Sarah Lancashire this play about modern Labour politics will satisfy any theatre and politics geek as well as the opportunity to see two huge names in what is bound to be a fantastic play.

    Shanine Salmon was a latecomer to theatre after being seduced by the National Theatre's £5 entry pass tickets and a slight obsession with Alex Jennings. She is sadly no longer eligible for 16-25 theatre tickets but she continues to abuse under 30 offers. There was a market for bringing awareness that London theatre was affordable in an era of £100+ West End tickets – Shanine’s blog, View from the Cheap Seat, launched in April 2016, focuses on productions and theatres that have tickets available for £20 and under. She is also quite opinionated and has views on diversity, pricing, theatre seats and nudity on stage. Her interests include Rocky Horror, gaming, theatre (of course) and she also has her own Etsy shop. Shanine tweets at @Braintree_.
