Lloyd Owen to star in West End's hottest new show The Bodyguard

Taking on the Kevin Costner role of Bodyguard Frank Farmer is Lloyd Owen who will star opposite Heather Headley in The Bodyguard previewing from 6th November at The Adelphi Theatre .

Whilst the name may not be instantly recognisable, Lloyd Owen is an accomplished stage and tv/film actor, who trained at National Youth Theatre and RADA in London. The son of actor Glyn Owen, who is perhaps best remembered as Jack Rolfe in iconic series Howards Way, the Welsh actor got his big break playing Professor Henry Jones Sr, father to Indiana Jones in the tv series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

Other tv and film credits include tv series Monarch of The Glen and the film Miss Potter that starred Renee Zellweger.  However, stage work is where his heart lies and he has been quoted as saying that "My screen work often funds my theatre career – that's the way I think of it. Theatre is where my heart and soul is, where I feel absolutely vocational. Creatively, theatre is the most democratic forum for an actor because you have near total control over your performance. It's also where the playwright can never be censored and, as such, that makes it a truly democratic forum for debate. And the communal experience, the chemistry that you get between actors and audience can be extraordinary. It can move you in a way that film can't. That's the power of theatre at its best."

His stage credits in the West End include Who's Afraid of Virgina Wolfe at The Almeida and Aldwych Theatre, Closer at the Lyric Theatre and Paul at the National Theatre.

In the film version of The Bodyguard, Kevin Coster did not sing but Lloyd Owen is described as having a rich baritone voice so maybe this will be one bodyguard who does!  Regardless, everybody is going to know who Lloyd Owen is now!
