Let It Be Launches on London Rooftop

The new Beatles tribute show "Let It Be" was launched yesterday in the rooftop bar of a London hotel. Four of the 10 performers who will share the roles of the fab four were there to perform six of The Beatles greatest hits.

The event was aiming to re-create the groups 1969 performance on top of the Apple Building on Savile Row. The show is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the super groups first single in 1962.

The show is likely to have the tag "jukebox musical" attached to it, however Let It Be producer Jamie Hendry is not too keen about that. "It's a term I thought we would be tarnished with," he said. "We call the show a theatrical concert, we're not shoehorning the musical around a book," referring to the theatrical term for a script for a musical with a story like others such as Mamma Mia and the upcoming Viva Forever.

The show will highlight The Beatles career from 1962 to 1970 and include more than 30 Beatles tracks with songs such as A Hard Day's night, Yesterday, Daytripper and Twist and Shout

Let It Be will premiere next month at the Prince of Wales Theatre with previews from 14 September.
