Hampstead's Good People Starring Imelda Staunton & Lloyd Owen Transfers To The Noel Coward Theatre

It has been confirmed that Good People will transfer from the Hampstead Theatre to the Noel Coward Theatre, beginning previews on 10th April 2014. The production officially opens on 15th April and runs until 14th June, filling the gap between The Full Monty and Shakespeare In Love.

Jonathan Kent's production, about whether you can ever truly leave the place where you were born, made its UK premiere at Hampstead Theatre on 5th March starring Imelda Staunton and Lloyd Owen, who will both reprise their performances for the play’s West End run. The show originally premiered on Broadway, winning the New York Drama Desk Critic’s Circle Award for Best Play.

Imelda Staunton was recently seen starring opposite Michael Ball in the West End production of Sweeney Todd and later this year she will star in a revival of Gypsy at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Lloyd Owen originated the title role in The Bodyguard at the Adelphi Theatre. His theatre credits also include: Loyalty at the Hampstead Theatre and Blood and Gifts at the National.

The Hampstead Theatre’s Artistic Director, Edward Hall, is “utterly delighted” about the Good People transfer. He said: “It’s a truly brilliant play beautifully directed, and the cast are astonishingly good in it. It was sold out at Hampstead before those really great reviews appeared, so it’s especially pleasing that so many people who would otherwise have been disappointed will now have a chance to catch it.”

‘If you were born in South Boston you've started life on the wrong side of the tracks, so just making ends meet will need all the energy you can muster. Imelda Staunton plays sharp-tongued single mother Margie, who will do anything it takes to pay the bills after losing yet another job. Hearing that an old boyfriend who has made good is in town, she decides to corner him - old loyalties should be good for something.’
