Driving Miss Daisy Transfers to the West End

The director of Driving Miss Daisy, David Esbjornson announced on the red carpet at the Tony Awards on 13th June, that the hit production will be making it's West End transfer with the same Broadway cast including stars Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones.

The Broadway production of Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize winning play about an elderly Southern Jewish Atlanta widow and her African American chauffeur was originally presented off Broadway where it ran for nearly 1,200 performances at Playwrights Horizons.  The production starred Dana Ivey and Morgan Freeman and led to the film adaptation in 1989 again starring Morgan Freeman with Jessica Tand which subsequently won the Oscar for Best Film.

The current Driving Miss Daisy production made it's debut at the Golden Theatre officially opened on Broadway on October 25th 2010 and ran until 9th April 2011.  The play was a huge commerical hit with it's big name stars drawing in the crowds.

The production is set to be staged this October in the West End although the actual theatre has yet to be announced.
