Dirty Dancing to replace Viva Forever!

Dirty Dancing returns to the West End replacing Viva Forever! at the Piccadilly Theatre

Dirty Dancing the musical previously played in London at the Aldwych Theatre from 2006 until 2011 and has since been touring the UK. The production was seen by more than two million people during its successful five year run and enjoyed success elsewhere in the world with productions opening in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, South African and the Netherlands.

Much speculation surrounded the next production at the Piccadilly Theatre following the highly publicised troubles of Viva Forever! the Jennifer Saunders-penned Spice Girls musical. Many possible suitors were mentioned but it seems that Dirty Dancing has beaten them all and will finish touring in June at the Manchester Opera House before coming to the Piccadilly Theatre from July 13.

The Dirty Dancing musical, based on the iconic film starring the late Patrick Swayze follows 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman whose life changes when she meets dance instructor Jonny Castle. Featuring original dialogue from the cult status film as well as additional material, the musical boasts scintillating dance sequences and renewed choreography set to the original iconic soundtrack.

Describing his excitement on returning to the West End, producer Karl Sydow said: “We’re delighted to bring the much-loved and iconic Dirty Dancing back to London in an all new exciting production that has thrilled audiences around the country. We look forward to welcoming the many fans of Dirty Dancing to the Piccadilly theatre this summer.”
