He joined the cast as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein’s trusty assistant on 12 February 2018, replacing Ross Noble, who recently won Best Supporting Actor in a Musical at the 18th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards. English has had prior experience in the role, having replaced Tony Award nominee Christopher Fitzgerald as Igor in both Broadway’s Hilton Theatre production and the US tour. Other cast members currently starring in the Garrick Theatre production of Young Frankenstein include Hadley Fraser as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, Lesley Joseph as Frau Blucher, Dianne Pilkington as Elizabeth, Summer Strakken as Inga, Patrick Clancy as Inspector Kemp, and Nic Greenshields as the Monster.

Young Frankenstein is based on the 1974 Oscar-nominated film of the same name, which was Brooks’ comic reimagining of Mary Shelley’s 1818 Gothic, horror fiction novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

Born in upstate New York, English made his big break in the Big Apple. His Broadway credits include Barnaby in Hello, Dolly! with Carol Channing, Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, and and Gypsy with Tyne Daly. He moved to the UK to study classical theatre at the Drama Studio London in Ealing. Whilst there, he starred in Corpus Christi at the Edinburgh Festival, Our Father and The Comedy of Errors as Dromios. He played Mary Sunshine in the West End production of Chicago, starred in The Producers in London and its tour, and played Benny Southstreet alongside Ewan McGregor and Jane Krakowksi in Guys and Dolls.

Booking for Young Frankenstein at the Garrick Theatre is ongoing until 29 September 2018. Tickets to see Ross Noble at the London Palladium for his El Hablador tour on 9 and 10 November 2018 are now on sale with good seats still available.
