Pretty Woman: The Musical was a smash hit on Broadway and the London transfer has been eagerly awaited. The wait is nearly over, with the production opening at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre in February 2020, and to induce further excitement, we have our first casting announcement.

Today we have received the news that Aimie Atkinson who recently finished her stint as Howard in Six the Musical at the West End’s Arts Theatre will be playing the lead role of Vivian. The role was played by Samantha Barks in the Broadway production; who has just been announced to play Elsa in the West End production of Frozen.

Danny Mac, who is currently starring in White Christmas at London’s Dominion Theatre, has been announced to play opposite Atkinson in the role of Edward. The film of the same name was led by Julia Roberts and Richard Gere as Vivian and Edward. Further casting for the production is yet to be announced.

The show has a book by Garry Marshall and the film’s screenwriter J F Lawton and features original music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Two-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde) has directed and choreographed the production. Based on the 1990 film; Pretty Woman started its stage life at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre before being transferred to Broadway. Andy Barks starred opposite Samantha Barks in the production at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre.

    What is Pretty Woman about?

The story follows Vivian, a prostitute who is working the streets of Sunset Boulevard, which is where she bumps into wealthy businessman Edward. He initially hires her for the night before extending their contract to a week in order for Vivian to attend social functions and business dos at his side. Despite the differences between the two and the six degrees of separation between their worlds, they grow closer as the week goes on. Edward doesn’t want to let her go and offers her a deal, but Vivian isn’t looking for a deal – she is looking for love. Will Edward be the knight in shining armour that she’s dreamt of?
