For one special night of the year, all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball. There, Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
Cats the Musical is based on T.S. Eliot's book of cat poetry, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Written during the 1930's and published in 1939, it was originally intended to be largely for children, but has proven extremely popular with adults of all ages as well. First adapted in 1981 in a production at the New London Theatre,
Cats took the West End by storm, snapping up two Olivier Awards (Musical of the Year and Outstanding Achievement of the Year in a Musical), and after eight years on stage, and 3,358 performances, Cats took a prestigious title as the longest running musical in the history of British theatre.
