    GREASE ROCKIN’ AND ROLLIN’ BACK

OPENING AT THE PICCADILLY THEATRE ON 8 AUGUST 2007

It needs no introduction – Grease is the word! The smash-hit musical returns to the West End, opening at The Piccadilly Theatre on Wednesday 8 August, with previews from 25 July.

Since breaking out on Broadway in 1972, Grease’s place has been firmly established in the cultural Hall of Fame, having seduced the hearts of millions with its back-to-back sizzling tunes. The show will feature all the unforgettable songs from the hit film including ‘You’re The One That I Want’, ‘Sandy’, ‘Grease Is The Word’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted’, ‘Summer Nights’ and many more.

Talking of the show''s enduring appeal, the producer David Ian commented, "Grease is the people''s musical and to be bringing it back into London''s West End with two brand new stars discovered in this exciting new ITV series, is as exciting as it gets "

Voted the “No 1 Greatest Musical”*, Grease has proved that a musical love story, bursting with denim, cheerleaders, slick hairstyles and raging teenage hormones, is timeless and universal.

This production originally opened in the West End in 1993 (co-produced with Robert Stigwood) where it enjoyed a fantastic run of 6 years. The last international tour of Grease was a phenomenal success, playing to sell-out audiences and smashing records at many venues. Since 1993, it has been seen by over 8.5 million people and has grossed over £160 million in the UK alone.

ITV’s Grease is the Word will be filling summer nights with the search for two unknown performers to take the highly coveted roles of Danny and Sandy. David Ian will be on the judging panel and will be joined by American producer David Gest, choreographer Brian Friedman and West End star Sinitta.

Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, directed by David Gilmore (Daisy Pulls It Off, Happy Days, Song & Dance, Footloose) and choreographed by Arlene Phillips (The Sound of Music, Starlight Express, Saturday Night Fever & BBC TV’s “Strictly Come Dancing”), Grease is produced in the West End by Paul Nicholas and David Ian, by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.

London Theatre Direct is one of the UK’s leading theatre ticket providers, bringing audiences closer to the magic of the stage.
