Further Casting Announced for Duke of York's Rosmersholm

Further casting has been announced for Rosmersholm, a play written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, adapted by Duncan MacMillan (People, Places and Things, 1984), and directed by Ian Rickson (Jerusalem, The Birthday Party). Following the recent cast announcement that Tom Burke (Strike) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America, Christopher Robin) were going to lead this adaptation, there has been non-stop excitement, which doesn't look like it will cease any time soon following the latest cast news.

Joining Burke and Atwell are Olivier Award-winning Giles Terera (Hamilton), Lucy Briers (Catherine of Aragon in Wolf Hall at the Aldwych Theatre and later reprised on Broadway), Peter Wright (The Birthday Party) and Jake Fairbrother (Henrik Ibsen’s Lady from the Sea).
The production will feature set and costumes designed by Rae Smith, lighting designed by Neil Austin, music from Stephen Warbeck, sound by Gregory Clarke and casting by Amy Ball.
Rebecca West (Atwell) comes to Rosmersholm in order to provide comfort for her friend, Beate Rosmer, who is in a downward spiral of depression. When Beate commits suicide, everything changes! John Rosmer’s (Burke) beliefs are certainly converted, leaving him torn when making decisions between an idealistic future and the ghosts of his past. Beate’s death also causes strain on the relationship of Rebecca and John when secrets are uncovered.
Henrik Ibsen was a director and poet, as well as a celebrated playwright. He is one of the world’s most performed dramatists and considered the Father of Realism. His most recognisable work is A Doll’s House, which happens to be the most performed play in the world. Ibsen was nominated three years consecutively for the Nobel Prize in Literature. His great influence on both playwrights and novelists is why he is believed to be the most important playwright since Shakespeare.
Rosmersholm will return to the West End for the first time since its run at the Almeida Theatre in 2008. This production will see the play open in the Duke of York's Theatre from April 24. The run will end on 20 July 2019 and tickets are sure to go quickly.
