The fabulous musical, Waitress, has been serving up confectionery bites of sweet cherry goodness to Broadway audiences since 2016 now, and it has received overwhelming praise. Following initial teasing from Sara Bareilles that producers were eyeing a London transfer, the show was oficially announced back in August that it would be receiving a much-deserved UK premiere at the Adelphi Theatre, replacing smash-hit Cyndi Lauper musical Kinky Boots in January 2019. However, no official dates have, thus far, been released until now!
Waitress is booking at the Adelphi Theatre from 8 February 2019 to 25 May 2019. Tickets to Waitress are now on sale.
*It is unknown whether Jessie Mueller will reprise her role as Jenna Hunterson for the West End transfer of Waitress. Official casting for Waitress will be announced in due course.
Smash-hit Broadway musical Waitress is based on the 2007 independent film of the same name by Adrienne Shelly. The film was a box office success, managing to recoup its budget of $1.5 million by twenty-fold.
A small-town girl named Jenna works as a waitress at Joe’s Diner deep in the American South. While she has a knack for baking delicious pies, Jenna’s personal life is not so sweet as she is caught in a bad romance with her abusive husband, Earl. When Jenna unexpectedly discovers she’s pregnant, she begins to have an extra-marital affair with her gynecologist, Dr. Pomatter. Desperate for a way out of her abusive relationship to make a better life for herself and her baby, she decides to enter a pie baking contest for her chance at a grand prize. Will Jenna make it out of this sticky situation?
Waitress made history on Broadway when it became the first major show to feature women in all four of the top creative spots with music and lyrics by world-renowned recording artist Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, a book by Jessie Nelson, and choreography by Lorin Latarro. The show’s all-female team also saw women fill the roles of costume designer (Suttirat Larlarb), musical director (Nadia DiGiallonardo) and co-producers (Fran Weissler and Elayne Herrick).
Due to overwhelming demand, tickets to see Waitress in London’s West End are expected to sell quickly. Don’t miss the UK premiere of Waitress and book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

*Update (22 November 2018): It has been announced that Katharine McPhee, known for playing Paige on Scorpion and for being runner-up on the fifth series of American Idol, will be starring as Jenna in the West End transfer of Waitress.
