The premise for Duncan Macmillan's Lungs play
Sea levels are rising while ice caps are melting. There is political unrest abroad and at home. Nothing is certain and nothing is stable. Why in the world would anyone want to bring a child into this world? This clever, cutting and funny drama trails a couple (Claire Foy, Matt Smith) through their relationship as they struggle with issues of family, uncertainty, change, hope, betrayal and coincidence. There is no pain like the pain caused by those we love.
"I could fly to New York and back every day for seven years and still not leave a carbon footprint as big as if I have a child. Ten thousand tonnes of CO2. That’s the weight of the Eiffel Tower. I’d be giving birth to the Eiffel Tower."
Duncan Macmillan tackles issues that arise in real relationships in Lungs, which comes to the West End as part of the Old Vic Season 5.
