8 Must See Family Shows in London's West End

There are many shows perfect for the whole family to enjoy, but here are a number to inspire you on how to spend your Summer Holidays, or ones to note for next year (providing they’re still booking). Let us know what you’ve seen, or will be seeing with your family. Until then, happy theatre viewing!

    1. Matilda
I saw this show for the first time recently. I wasn’t one of those kids to be raised on loving it, despite being a big Roald Dahl fan, but I finally took the plunge and went along, only to come away in utter awe. If you’ve read the book or seen the film, you’ll know the story; if you haven’t it tells the tale of a young girl, who is stuck with a family who are rude and cruel, but she finds an escape in books and soon learns to overcome the obstacles caused by her family and school. It’s funny and silly, yet sad but heart-warming with wonderful staging. It’s the perfect show for families, and those that are big kids at heart.
Currently booking now until 2018, and heading out on its first UK tour in 2018/19.

    2. School of Rock
I’ve seen this show twice now, and it’s easily one of my favourite shows. The kids in this show have talent on another level. Based on the film of the same name, it demonstrates how music ‘teacher’ Dewey Finn comes to inspire a bunch of children to follow their passions. It’s high-energy fun that will make you leave the theatre wanting to be a rock star!
Currently booking now until the beginning of 2019.

    3. Aladdin
Transport yourself to Agrabah, and jump aboard the magic carpet because this show has glitz, glamour and a barrel of laughs in this magical musical adventure. It’s a Disney film I grew up loving, only to fall in love with it all over again when I got to see it on stage.
Currently booking now to February 2018.

    4. Annie
This is an exciting revival of a classic musical, telling the tale of young Orphan girl Annie and her search to be reunited with her parents. It has sheer heart, and it’s bound to win families over as it certainly won me over. Just remember – the sun will come out tomorrow.
Currently booking now to February 2018.

    5. The Lion King
This is probably the best possible way you could introduce your kids to the West End. Based on the beloved Disney film of the same name, it’s a creative wonder with its stunning puppetry and iconic score. I believe it’s a show everyone should see at least once!
Currently booking now to February 2018.

    6. Mamma Mia!
Quite possibly the happiest show in the West End in my opinion. Who doesn’t want to be sent to a Greek island with the music of ABBA to tell us a story of Donna and the Dynamos? Toe-tappingly good fun for all!
Currently booking now to March 2018.

    7. Kinky Boots
For slightly older children (I'd say 12+ though the official child policy is 8+), this show teaches so many lessons about love and acceptance that I constantly urge everyone I know to see it. I think young teens will be in awe of its glitz and glamour, and left inspired by the tale of a factory worker meets drag queen.
Currently booking now to March 2018.
