MUSHY: Lyrically Speaking in limited run at the Arcola Theatre
This new musical recounts the story that touched the hearts of the nation, and takes us beyond Mushy’s speech and tells us what happened after the young man at the centre of a television documentary found his voice through music.
In Dewsbury in 2013 we met Mushy, a young man with a debilitating stammer. With a stroke of inspiration his teacher, Mr Burton, uses music to help Mushy find his voice again. The clip inspired thousands and social media was abuzz with talk of this seemingly miraculous cure.
But Mushy’s search to find his voice was just starting. This poignant new play tells us how the young man deals with becoming an overnight celebrity.
Who is involved in MUSHY: Lyrically Speaking?
From the Rifco Theatre Company (Pyar Actually, Dishoom!) this rhythmic new play comes to the Arcola for 6 performances only! Written by Pravesh Kumar (Laila The Musical, The Deranged Marriage) the show is infused with rap and lyrical narration by award-winning British rapper Raxstar (Keep It Undercover).
