Celebrated throughout the world, Mark Morris has become a benchmark of creativity for a generation of dancers, choreographers and audiences. Here the master of American contemporary dance presents two programmes showcasing brand new choreographies alongside classic works.
The UK premiere of Visitation will open Programme Two, with nine dancers performing to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata no. 4 in C major. The evening is completed by the jubilant Going Away Party, set to the American Western swing music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys; plus Excursions, which is underscored by Samuel Barber’s beautiful Excursions for the Piano and the critically-acclaimed Grand Duo, set to music by Lou Harrison.
Programme One features Bedtime, set to music by Franz Schubert, and V set to music by Robert Schumann plus the UK premiere of Empire Garden, which features 15 dancers from the Mark Morris Dance Group and is set to a score by Charles Ives for strings and piano.
