Best known for his work in musical theatre, Jason Pennycooke (46) is a What’s On Stage and two Olivier Award-nominated actor and choreographer.
Training:
Growing up in Leeds, he received training in dance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds, as well as the London Studio Centre.
Awards:
Jason has two Olivier Awards to his name; in 2015, he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his role as Bobby in Memphis. In 2018, he received another Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his portrayal of Thomas Jefferson/Marquis de Lafayette in Hamilton.
Theatre:
Having worked extensively in the industry, Jason has added numerous credits to his long list of theatre work. Some of his remarkable roles include Jacob in La Cage Aux Folles at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Playhouse, receiving an Olivier and a What’s On Stage award nomination, and Paul in Kiss Me, Kate at the Chichester Festival Theatre. He has also appeared in Forever Young at Nottingham Playhouse; White Folks at The Kiln Theatre; Time Flows at the Trinity Buoy Wharf; Sammy at Theatre Royal, Stratford East; Punks and Raging Queens, and Elegies for Angels at The Old Globe; Simply Heavenly at Young Vic; Robin and the Seven Hoods at the Leicester Square Theatre; The Rat Pack at the Savoy Theatre and US Tour; The Big Life at the Apollo and Theatre Royal, Stratford East, among others.

His screen credits include Stay Lucky (YTV), Shopping (Paul W S Anderson), Sammy in Mister Lonely (Harmony Korine), Grandad in All About the McKenzies (London Live) and Paul in Kiss Me, Kate (BBC).
Radio:
Jason has also worked in radio programs such as Anthony Newley Birthday Celebrations and The Big Life, both for the BBC World Service.
