David Blake is a London-based actor and dancer. Born in St. Helena, Jamaica, he is most recognized for his performance in the hit West End musical The Lion King. Other than acting, David is also a proficient dancer and choreographer. He has been a guest artist for various choreographers and dance companies in California. He has also conducted workshops and masterclasses in Jazz, Musical Theatre, Modern and Afro-Caribbean dance. David is also a voice actor and worked in various Disney movies as a dubbing and voice artist. He is the founder of Blake Arts UK, David is currently a part of Disney Theatrical Group.
Awards:
He was awarded the Best Teacher for Performing Arts as a Subject by The Black British Theatre Awards (BBTA) 2020.
Training:
After graduating from the University of London, Goldsmiths with an MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy, David received his professional training in performing arts from Cathy Levy Performing Arts Academy, California State University, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance School. He is also a certified Lester Horton Technique Instructor and a fellow of the International Dance Teachers' Association (IDTA).
Theatre:
Currently, David is performing in Disney's award-winning musical The Lion King playing 'Banzai'. His other theatre credits include Jesus 2000 (US Tour) and The Nutcracker.
TV:
He has worked in several TV shows, including Los Angeles Holiday Concert (PBS); Live at the Ford (KCET); and Royal Palm Estate (CVM).
Films:
David's film credits include Dreamgirls and Ascension Day.
Other Credits:
He was a lead dancer with the National Dance Theatre of Jamaica with tours of the US and Canada.
