Barnaby Thompson, a renowned name in both film and television in the UK, is a heartthrob of many. Some of the highest-grossing British independent movies of all time came from his prestigious production house. The significant boost to his career happened when Barnaby with some of his partners retrieved iconic Ealing Studios in 2000. This esteemed studio was a major contributor in the Oscar-winning film, The Queen to Shaun of the Dead. His career flourished further when he came into film production. Wayne’s World, Spice World, Kevin & Perry Go Large, and An Ideal Husband are some of his highly-acclaimed movies that achieved international fame.
Training:
Thompson completed his apprenticeship from St. Paul’s School, London and later graduated from the illustrious Oxford University. Though he accomplished a degree in theology and philosophy, his passion for stage shows, theatre and movies took him elsewhere. He also achieved a diploma in musical theatre from the distinguished Laine Theatre Arts. After his university days, Thompson with two of his close buddies, travelled to Pakistan and Afghanistan. They made a documentary ‘Refugees of Faith’ that portrayed the gloomy lives of about 3.5 million refugees in Pakistan.
Theatre:
His theatre journey started with the role of Ensemble in Mary Poppins. This theatre show was produced by Cameron Mackintosh Ltd and was staged at the historic Prince Edward Theatre in London. Added to this, he also portrayed the character of Ensemble in Chicago that was orchestrated at the illustrious Cambridge Theatre. Another feather to his crown, Thompson became the Assistant Dance Captain in Legally Blonde with Ambassador Theatre Group. He also played the much-loved role of Louis in Drew McOnie’s dance thriller ‘Jekyll & Hyde’. Presently, he is playing the character of Ed in The Lion King produced by Disney Theatrical Group.
