THE MOUSETRAP CELEBRATES 60 YEARS

Posted on | By London Theatre Direct

Next year, 2012, will mark the start of the year long celebrations for The Mousetrap's 60th year in production, it's diamond jubilee! There will be a series of "60" themed plans which will include its first ever UK tour starting in September 2012.

The tour will run for 60 weeks and visit 60 venues along the way. Producer Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen said it will "be popular with people who don't want to come to London to see a show." The original production has been seen by over 10 million people and Waley-Cohen insists they still "get good houses".

Also announced for the 60th year celebrations, the productions charity, Mousetrap Theatre Projects, will run an educational project visiting 60 schools along the way. The company has also licensed 60 international productions and a 60p charity charge will be applied to the ticket price to benefit charities working with young people and the arts.

The plans were announced by Waley-Cohen who bought the rights from the original producer Peter Saunders back in 1994. Christie's grandson, Matthew Prichard, along with Artistic Director David Turner and members of the current cast were also at the announcement.

Turner had the following to say about the production “People say, are you keeping it on to break records?, the answer is, there are no records to break, they have all been broken. And when people stop coming to see it, it will close, it’s as simple as that.”

The Mousetrap is at the St Martin's Theatre, London
