CRAZY FOR YOU TRANSFERS TO THE NOVELLO

Posted on | By London Theatre Direct

The musical Crazy For You finishing tomorrow at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre will transfer to the Novello Theatre opening in October following the closure of Betty Blue Eyes.

All of the current cast of the Open Air Production including including Harriet Thorpe, David Burt, Sean Palmer, Clare Foster, Kim Medcalf and Michael McKell will stay on with the show.

With a book by Ken Ludwig, Crazy For You brings back the classic American musical with music and lyrics by the Gershwins including “I Got Rhythm”, “Someone To Watch Over Me”, “Embraceable You” and “Nice Work If You Can Get It”.

The show is largely based on the 1930 musical Girl Crazy but uses songs from other productions as well.  The Broadway production received rave reviews on it's opening and won the 1992 Tony Award For Best Musical.  The West End production opened the year after starring Ruthie Henshall and ran for 3 years winning an Olivier Award.

Reviews for the production at the Regent Park's Open Air Theatre:

"Delirious musical comedy Crazy for You at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park is a perfect antidote to the dark days in London" - The Telegraph ****

"There isn’t a happier or more exhilarating sight in London than the massed ranks of tap dancers here, living up to the promise of I Got Rhythm by providing plenty of their own. Nor is there a better, more tuneful score in town than this collection of some of the best Gershwin songs in the repertoire, accompanied by a terrific orchestra under the baton of Gareth Valentine. Who could ask for anything more, indeed?" - The Stage

"Full of youthful exuberance...the show brims with a sassy joie de vivre" "Stephen Mear's choreography is INGENIOUS and POLISHED" - Evening Standard ******

"You'll go crazy for Gershwin's girls"
"the sheer joy the company take in their work is infectious...Clare Foster is terrific...Sean Palmer is a handsome sweetheart" - Daily Mail *****

"Beautifully choreographed by Stephen Mear and directed with aplomb by Timothy Sheader...this production is a glorious blaze of colour and exuberance" "IRRESISTIBLE" - Sunday Telegraph *****
