The Parent Trap to get the full West End treatment?
A new musical based on Lottie and Lisa by Erich Kastner, which inspired not one, but two popular Disney films: The Parent Trap starring Hayley Mills (1961) and the Parent Trap remake starring Mean Girls actress Lindsay Lohan (1998), is set to receive its world premiere in summer 2020 at the Nottingham Playhouse before transferring to the Theatre Royal Bath for a limited run from 4 to 19 September. A West End home has yet to be announced for this highly-anticipated production, which was still looking for two identical twins to star in the show as of September 2019.
Creative team for Identical musical
The musical Identical is directed by Trevor Nunn (Fiddler on the Roof) and features lyrics by Anthony Drewe (Mary Poppins The Musical) and music by George Stiles, plus an original book by Stuart Paterson (The Jungle Book). The show also features casting direction by Jo Hawes, who organised a round of auditions in London on Saturday, 5 October 2019 and another in Nottingham on Saturday, 26 October. Casting for the two twin girls has yet to be confirmed. Both roles were famously played by a young Lindsay Lohan before the troubled star became tabloid fodder. As it is impossible to use CGI on stage, the stage musical for The Parent Trap requires two actresses.
What is Identical The Musical about?
The musical identical to The Parent Trap plot follows a pair of twin girls who were separated at birth. The two become reunited by coincidence while attending the same summer camp ten years later. They decide to trade places in each other's lives to get to know their divorced mother and father while secretly plotting to get them back together. Their clever scheming yields hilarious results.
