After twenty-five years exploring the world and nearly fifty years in radio, television, books and films, Michael Palin, acclaimed actor, writer and comedian will for one night only, be putting on a stage show at the Palace Theatre. To celebrate his third book, Travelling To Work 1988-1998, Palin has announced a whirl of a UK tour this Autumn with stops all over the UK and landing in London on the second to last performance before heading to his native Sheffield to finish off.
For the first half of the show Michael takes us through a whistle-stop tour of the globe and his experience of it. Highlights and lowlights, beauties and beasts, wonders and wash-outs, he takes us through it all with a selection of photographs and videos shot during his travel series, beginning with Around The World In Eighty Days.
The second half of Michael Palin's show takes a look back at the other part of his life: the love of comedy that was his drive and took him from schoolboy in Sheffield to Python at the O2 Arena. The joy of writing and acting that produced his two previous novels and took him from dead parrot salesman to the headmaster who fights back in GBH.
On the tour, his first solo, Michael Palin said, "The Travelling to Work Diaries cover an extraordinarily busy time of my life. I was trying things I'd never done before, pushing myself beyond the predictable to novels and plays and a whole new career as a television traveller. I like to think that the Travelling to Work tour is in the same spirit of adventure and experiment. It will be my first solo tour and I see it as a chance to meet audiences all over the country and talk about the only consistent thread in my working life - the irresistible urge to do something completely different."
