Leaving London, we drive through the Thames Valley countryside to reach Oxford known as the "City of Dreaming Spires". During our walking tour, we visit Christ Church College. The Great Hall was used as film location for Hogwarts School attended by the now famous young wizard Harry Potter. See the Great Hall replicated to create Hogwarts Hall and the 16th Century staircase with its vaulted roof.
Christ Church, Oxfords largest college, re-founded by Henry VIII, is the only college in the world with a cathedral within its walls. The Dining Room, Cloisters and Quadrangle, Picture Gallery and tranquil Meadow all provide an introduction to the beauty and history of Britain. Lewis Carroll author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was also inspired by its views as inspiration for his famous children’s book.
After visiting Christ Church we have free time in the City for either lunch or to see the other Universities and libraries used by the students. The tour proceeds on to the old city of Gloucester. The impressive gothic Cathedral has been a place of worship for over 1,300 years and remains the centrepiece of Gloucester itself. Its cloisters are regarded as one of the most beautiful architectural gems in Britain. The cathedral provided the backdrop for several key scenes in the film, and pupils from nearby King’s School provided the extras. Tea will be taken in the Undercroft situated within the Cathedral’s grounds.
