Born in Findlay, Ohio on 18th April 1976, Gavin James Creel is an American songwriter, singer and actor; best known for his musical theatre work. He made his Broadway debut as Jimmy Smith in Thoroughly Modern Millie. His role of Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly! brought him a Tony Award for his performance. He received 2 other nominations for his performance in Hair as Claude and for originating Jimmy’s role in Thoroughly Modern Millie. For originating the role of Elder Price in the West End version of The Book of Mormon, he won a Laurence Olivier Award. In Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of She Loves Me, he acted as Steven Kodaly, which received many accolades.
Training:
In 1998, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theatre from the University Of Michigan School Of Music, Theatre & Dance.
Awards:
Creel has won the Special Recognition Award (cast-shared) in the GLAAD Media Awards for “Hair” in 2010; Best Actor in a Musical for “The Book of Mormon” in the 2014 Laurence Olivier Awards. For “Hello, Dolly”, he won Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Tony Awards, 2017, Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Drama Desk Awards, 2017), and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Outer Critics Circle Awards, 2017).
